So many things threaten child development in the favelas. Overcoming simple problems can make a big difference.

Ultimately our goal is to empower leaders who can bring an end to injustice, discrimination and poverty in the favelas. The way we do it is one child at a time, one family at a time and one community at a time.

Real improvement in the minds of people, in a physical environment and in the dominance of a culture does not happen over-night. It is learned and experienced over time.

Aqua Fria in Fortaleza, a community accustomed to failure and hopelessness is steadily beginning to dream for its children. Parents are seeing the difference in their children, neighbors are hearing success stories and young people are making things happen in their community which bring pride and dignity.

Step by step we see improvements in parenting skills, health, family life and educational achievements. In addition we see recognition from local authorities who have seen the results of our work and have called on the project for advice and help.

There is still a long way to go but we believe that we are equipping the future leaders of this community with quality education and outstanding character in the face of adversity.

From these children may come the future leaders of a city and even the nation.
